As we noted last week, fictional portrayals of the American West have often presented an unrealistic view of life in that part of the United States.
Still, novels and short stories set in the West have become popular staples of entertainment for people who enjoy reading simply for pleasure.
Most western fiction is “light” reading; very little of it can be characterized as serious literature that will be studied in academic settings for generations to come.
