Track teams take part in South Barber meet

KIOWA, Kan. – For the second time in as many meets, the Alva High School girls track and field team return home with a third-place finish, while the boys finished fourth, at the South Barber Invitational in Kiowa, Kansas, on Tuesday.

Earning top marks as individuals were Reese Martin and Dawson Manning in the boys meet, and Ray Ray Bell continues to dominate with a first-place finish in the 800 meter run. The Ladybugs had two relay teams earn the top spot in the 4 x 400 and the 4 x 800 meter relays, while the boys also picked up a first place finish in the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Bell was no match for the competition in the meet at South Barber as she finished in the top spot in the 800 meter with a time of 2:30.87, nearly a full seven second ahead of the second place finisher. She was also a part of the two winning relay teams for the Ladybugs.

Payton Jones had her season best mark in the high jump as she skied to a height of 5 feet 2 inches to give her a second-place finish in the meet. Unofficially, that is the second highest clearance of the season in Oklahoma, according to OHSTrack.com.

Fellow jumper Acacia Charles had a top five finish in the long jump as she recorded a distance of 14 foot 2 inches.

Priscila Samaniego added a second-place finish with a time of 13:41.34 in the 3200 meter run, and a time of 2:38.84 in the 800 meter run to finish four place. Freshman Rianna Clark raced to a second-place finish in the 400 meter dash as she crossed the line with a time of 1:02.97, her best time of the year.

In the boys portion of the South Barber meet, Martin was the top runner in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12 seconds flat. Manning crossed the line in first place in the 200 meter dash at the 23.34 mark.

Dylan McGuire has been solid this season in the high jump, finishing just behind the first-place finisher at a height of 6 feet 0 inches for second place. He also competed in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 20.59.

Kellen Claflin added a third-place finisher for the Goldbugs with a throw of 42 feet 5 inches in the shot put.

The Alva teams will take part in the Chisholm meet on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
