Tigers Rally Comes up Short

ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Tiger baseball team came up short in two tightly contested games 8-5 and 3-2 on Saturday afternoon to Northwestern Oklahoma State.
After being shutout in game one of the series, the Ouachita Tigers (10-32, 6-20 GAC) baseball team dug in and battled in the final two games of the series.
Game One: Ouachita 5, NWOSU 8
The Tigers offense pounced first in the top of the first inning. Jakahari Howell (Arkadelphia, Ark.) reached on an error by the third baseman to lead off the game. Howell made it all the way to third after a Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) single to left field. Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) came away with the first RBI hit of the afternoon with a single to third base.
Luis Mendoza tied the game at one in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single through the gap between first and second base. The Rangers took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third, thanks to a Jorin VanAmstel single to center.
The Rangers lead ballooned to 5-1 before the Tiger offense struck again. White came through with his second RBI of the afternoon with a double down the left field line. A few batters later and White scored on error by Northwestern.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Tigers roared back and tied the game at five. Alexander and Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) each had RBI knocks in the inning.
The game did not stay tied for long though as Northwestern took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning. The Rangers tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
White was the top offensive option for the Tigers in game one as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI's.
Adam Bahloul (Maumelle, Ark.) had one his best outings of the year in the loss. The junior hurler threw 158 pitches in 7.0 innings of work.
Game Two: Ouachita 2, NWOSU 3
VanAmstel hit an RBI double to left field to put the Rangers on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning.
The game stayed 1-0 in Northwestern's favor until the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, Cade McBride (Prosper, Texas) came through with an RBI hit to tie the game up at 1-1.
The Rangers offense took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of runs in the frame.
Aaron Studdard (Denton, Texas) came through with the Tigers second RBI of game two with a ground out to the shortstop.
Tyler Duck (Flower Mound, Texas) pitched six full innings before being tabbed with the game two loss on Saturday afternoon.
Ouachita will be back at home on Tuesday afternoon against the University of the Ozarks. First pitch is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time.
