Eagle Times: Trading places
April 19, 2018
When I got up this morning, it felt like it was an ordinary day, I was ready to get up, go to school and finish out the year. After I got up, I began to get ready for the school day, only to find out that I looked completely different. I still proceeded to get ready for the day, but my phone interrupted me. I answered it, and I was stunned by what I heard. Sir, we need you at the state capitol immediately.
I arrived at the capitol only to find that the place was crawling with protesters, as it was the first day of the teacher strike. I walked through the middle of the crowd on my way to the building, where I was greeted by several people that were heading to discuss a bill to give the teachers what they wanted. I finally realized what had happened when someone said, "Good morning, Mr. Sparks." After saying good morning to the man, I went to the bathroom, where I looked in the mirror.
As I looked in the mirror, I remembered why I was here. I had wished the night before that I could trade places with someone to help end the teacher walkout. I knew I had to say something to the representatives to get the ball rolling, but it would be a very hard task. The representatives felt that they had done a good enough job and that the teachers didn't need any more money. I felt that if I made a speech to the representatives, I could potentially change their minds. It would take a lot of effort, but it the time for change was finally here, it was time to give the teachers what they wanted.
