April 22, 2018

Dr. Marc Decker, assistant professor of music at Northwestern, has told his students he will leave after this semester to take a job at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Decker said it is a large university with 30,000 students. He will be director of athletic bands.

Before moving to Alva, Dr. Decker was an adjunct at American University in Washington, D.C. He said his wife Dima will be able to continue her current job with Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals simply in a new region.

Decker is excited to be moving near family as he has two parents and two siblings in Orlando. Also, there are three nieces available who are about the same age as his daughter.

When asked about his favorite memory after moving to Alva, he said, "There's not just one, but it has been wonderful. I love the people here and my life has been better because I lived here. It has been a true joy!"

Dr. Decker will direct a final band concert in Alva at Herrod Hall at 7 pm on Tuesday night entitled "The Winds of Spring."
