Train collides with road grader in fatal crash

 


A Goltry man died after the road grader he was driving was struck by a train in Alfalfa County Wednesday. Jimmy Wilson, 74, of Goltry was pronounced dead at the scene from internal injuries by Medical Examiner Brock Smith.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), Wilson was driving a 2018 John Deere Road Grader Model 672G north on County Road 720 about 5:10 pm. Wednesday, May 16. The location is 24 feet south of Wheat Street in Goltry.

A Burlington Northern & Santa Fe train driven by Brett A. Curtis, 20, of Amarillo, Texas, was westbound on the railroad tracks. The OHP report says Wilson failed to yield and the road grader was struck by the train.

Neither Curtis nor his passenger Nathan Shaffer, 48, of Amarillo were injured. Wilson had to be extricated from his vehicle by Alfalfa County EMS.

Trooper Trey Mathews investigated assisted by Troopers Seth Sturgeion and Keven Edsall as well as the Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Department.
