Brian Davis shows a cellphone rendition of one of his oil paintings. Davis of Reno, Nevada, visited the first Friday Art Walk in Alva before juding the Nescatunga Arts Festival on Saturday. He's teaching an oil painting workshop at the Graceful Arts Gallery starting Monday, June 4.

Brian Davis is the unusual artist who has managed to support himself through creating art his whole life. He says his interest in visual arts began at age three when he became "the artist in the family." Born in Burbank, California, the 71-year-old now lives in Reno, Nevada.

Davis was a commercial artist in the 1970s following a two-year stint in the army and finishing college. He said commercial art was something he was good at, and he wanted to make a living. He did album covers, murals and all kinds of commercial work.
