A noise complaint led to the arrest of two Alva men after an officer recognized some partygoers were under age 21.
Habib Rahman Kamara Jr., 21, and Isiah Daniel Corrales-Correa, 22, have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors, a misdemeanor. The two are suspected of providing alcohol and marijuana at their home to numerous minors from ages 16-20. This crime is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
According to court documents, Alva Police Officer William Shahan went to the 600 block of Linden Street about 1:30 a.m. on May 28 to investigate a noise complaint. When he arrived, he recognized a vehicle belonging to an underage male. As he approached the residence, he could hear music being played very loudly and multiple people in the house yelling as well as people in the backyard of the house.
As Shahan walked to the front door of the house, he looked through the glass window of the front door and saw multiple cans and bottles of alcohol in the residence. He also saw inside an underage male he recognized.
Shahan knocked on the door and a man later identified as Kamara answered. He said it was his house, and his ID was upstairs. Shahan asked him to shut off the music and get his ID.
As Kamara went to get his ID, Shahan observed people getting up from a table and people going out of the back door. Shahan put his foot inside the door to keep it from being closed.
When Kamara returned, Shahan asked him to step aside. Kamara said he could not enter the residence, but Shahan explained based on the odor of marijuana and knowing there were underage individuals inside with alcohol, he had probable cause to enter. Kamara continued to argue and tried to shut the front door. After some resistance from Kamara, Shahan was able to handcuff him.
Shahan requested assistance at the address. He saw Corrales-Correa, identified as Kamara’s roommate, going into other rooms and coming back to the front. Other officers arrived, and Kamara and Corrales-Correa were taken into custody.
While clearing the house, Shahan found one door locked. He learned the room belonged to Kamara who said he didn’t know where the key was. Officer Shahan and Deputy Honeyman told the people inside the locked room to open the door, and they did.
Inside the room were five people. Three were age 16, one was 18 and one was 21. They said they had just arrived at the party when they heard the cops were there so they hid in the room.
Officers found three underage people in the backyard, and one confirmed drinking alcohol that was already in the house when they arrived.
