Oklahoma plans to build $22 million softball stadium

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma plans to build a $22 million softball stadium instead of renovating its current one.

The school's Board of Regents approved a revised design plan Tuesday that will move the facility about a half mile south, rather than renovating the current one.

Oklahoma has won three of the past six national championships under coach Patty Gasso, and attendance has increased as the team has excelled. The capacity of the new stadium will be 3,000. The current capacity of Oklahoma's stadium is 1,378, but temporary bleachers were added on May 26, allowing a record crowd of 1,927.

The updated plan includes three concessions stands and more restrooms. Other changes include a 10,000 square-foot indoor practice facility — nearly double the size of the current facility. The timeline has not been determined.
