This year at Burlington High School we have eight eighth graders. This class is very passionate about what they believe in and love cracking jokes. One of their favorite past memories is going to the Capitol to observe Senator Pederson and getting to tour the Capitol. This year Burlington Student Council (STUCO) did something different for Valentine's Day. Instead of just having the traditional orders of balloons, cookies, candy, pop and stuffed animals for Valentine's Day, the STUCO decided to add tumblers to the menu. With the recent purchase of a plasma cam, they were able to add on the option to engrave a special someone's name on a Burlington Elks tumbler. The Burlington third-grade class has a new teacher this year: Mrs. Anne Graham. Mrs. Graham was born in Port Huron, Michigan, and grew up in the small town of Millbrook, Michigan. In January 2016, her husband accepted a preaching job at the Riverside Church of Christ and they moved to Burlington in March of that year. Brenner Vern Clark is the son of Vern and Marilyn Clark. He has two older sisters, Keyra and Lexi. Some of his favorite things to do are singing, listening to music, watching movies and hanging out with his friends. On Friday Nov. 9, the Burlington school had an assembly to celebrate Veteran's Day. The senior class conducted the assembly and the Burlington music students performed vocal selections. Students at Burlington recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week, a national prevention awareness campaign for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence. Each day had a designated theme for everyone to dress up and show their support. Monday's theme was "Too bright to do drugs." Students dressed in neon colors and sunglasses. This year at Burlington High School we have four courageous cross country runners. On Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. the high school runners had their first meet at the Great Salt Plains State Park hosted by Timberlake High School. Kale Pierce, Timberlake coach, was in charge of the meet and mapped out all the courses for the junior high and high school students. On Sept. 13, the Burlington FCA hosted a blood drive at the school. With a population of 159, Burlington had 23 people give blood. There were three first-time donors from the student population. To get the word out about the blood drive, Kirsten Pruett, sponsor for the FCA club, had the FCA members call anybody they knew to inform them about this event.
