Burlington Student Council recently held a fundraiser called Burlington Breakaway. Students set a goal of $1,400 encouraging each class to raise $100. Every day of Burlington Breakaway, students who wanted to paid $5 to participate in fun activities or receive treats after lunch. On Monday, the students played "Bahama Bingo" to win prizes. Apryl Burleson, the pre-K teacher at Burlington school, grew up in Tulia, Texas, where she graduated from Tulia High School. Burleson graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle and Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she received three degrees including a B.A. in social work, a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and a M.Ed. in educational leadership. Burlington School counselor Gayle McNett chose to put a random act of kindness box in the main hallway of Burlington School for National Kindness Week. Inside the box are little notes that offer things you can do to show kindness around the school and around town. This helps the students learn respect for others and to have a positive attitude at school. Jaedyn Williams, a senior at Burlington High School, has brought lots of joy to the students here. Jaedyn was born in Enid to her mom, Abby Williams, and dad, Ryan Williams. She has three sisters: Mya, Marlee and Taya. Jaedyn's favorite subject in school is athletics. Sterling Stewart, a junior at Burlington High School, was accepted to attend the National FFA Convention as a chorus member this October. Stewart was very excited when he was told he got accepted. He said when he arrived the directors told them that they were in the top 0.1 percent of the nation. Burlington School gained six new students in junior high and high school this year. Hallie Hamilton and Kaci Hughes, both seniors; Noah Smart and Andrew Hosey, sophomores; Angel Stewart, eighth grade; and Vance Stewart, seventh grade. The elementary school has also gained 14 new students. All the students find the school very welcoming and friendly. Hallie feels like the staff and the students are really kind and helpful to her.
