The Burlington Elks' basketball season has been far from perfect. Difficult setbacks like positive Covid cases, weather conditions, and canceled games have made their season far from normal. Paden Lee Allen is the 17 year-old son of Josh and Jessica Allen. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on March 10, 2003. Some of Paden's hobbies in his spare time are hunting, fishing, welding and being creative. Paden is currently involved in many activities such as FFA, FCA, basketball and STUCO. The Elks and Lady Elks basketball teams have both had a relatively successful season so far. The girl's record is 18-8 and the boy's record is 19-7. Burlington Elks and Lady Elks both played on Saturday, Feb. 15, in the district championship at Burlington. The Lady Elks played Freedom Lady Eagles and won 73-40. Tateyn R. Rieger is the 18-year-old son of Brad and Robbie Rieger. Rieger was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on September 21, 2001. He has two older siblings, Tanner and Tiffany. Burlington Student Council held its annual food drive in the first week of November. Each year a competition between the pre-K through 12th grade classes is held to determine who can bring the most cans and nonperishable food items. The competition was separated between the younger and older groups and the reward for the most food was a donut party. The kindergarten won with a total of 229 items. Burlington students have been making cancer care bags during their Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classes. FACS teacher Judy Elliott has been having her two classes cut, pin and fold the fabric to make cancer care bags. The bags go to Oklahoma Tenaciously Teal, where they will be filled care items and a hand-writtten note to women fighting cancer. On Thursday, Sept. 12, Burlington FCA held a Bedlam blood drive at the school. Twenty-two people volunteered to donate blood for the Oklahoma Blood Institute. FCA officers helped out at the blood drive by having patients sign up to give and also handing out snacks before or after the volunteers gave blood. After giving blood, every person donating received their choice of an OU or OSU T-shirt.... Full story
