  • City Council approves bid for booster pump station

    The City of Alva has received a Department of Environmental Quality permit for installation of a new booster pump station replacing one currently on Oklahoma Boulevard at 14th Street. The booster station will include three 50-hp pumps with variable frequency drives. The Alva City Council acknowledged receipt of the permit during their meeting Tuesday, Jan. 21.     In an effort to make the payroll system more accurate, efficient and cost effective, the Alva city departments have been working to implement the Nextep system. In the past, some departments depended on employees writing down their hours while others used timekeeping programs. This system is set up for everyone to clock in and out via computer. Employee pay is delivered by direct deposit to their bank accounts. The program also includes human resources services.     City Business Manager Joe Don Dunham told the city council Tuesday about a recent meeting of the street committee. The discussion was on street work completed and plans for this year. One project will be completion of the intersection at East Flynn and Meno which washed out in last year’s heavy rains. After the replacement of culverts, the street surface was graveled until warmer weather would allow for a more permanent fix. “I know this has been a headache for people,” said Dunham.     Ford will pay at least $30 million in a proposed settlement over a class-action lawsuit related to failing transmissions in its Fiesta and Focus vehicles.
