  • My friend Job

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Mar 29, 2024

We recently came to the end of studying the book of the prophet Ezekiel several weeks ago in our adult Bible class. I asked the group what we should study next, and a resounding request to study the book of Job was their reply. I was quite surprised by this request as the book of Job describes his sorrow and struggles with both his friends and the Lord Almighty himself! But it was the overwhelming choice, so we began to delve into what I thought was going to be a long, sad and boring book. To my surprise, reading the book of Job again brought...

Faith and belief are closely related concepts, often used interchangeably, but they can carry distinct meanings depending on context. • Bickering snowflakes

    Andy and Renie Bowman|Mar 29, 2024

We were created by our God to be different from each other. We all have different personalities, likes, loves, dislikes and downright detests. Unfortunately, too much of the time the “detests” are each other. Why? Maybe it’s because we see our outlook on life as the only plausible way to view life. “And the rest of you morons are totally wrong about so many things.” That makes you and me really difficult to be around much of the time. Think about it. How many people in life have you ever comp...

  • The challenge: What have you done today?

    Dal Houston|Mar 29, 2024

Recently, someone in my family passed away, and since his death, I have pondered a story that he often told me about a feat he accomplished as a high-schooler. To be clear, my words and thoughts are not meant to be critical or disrespectful, but rather introspective and curious, so please don’t misunderstand my intentions with this article. So, the story goes like this: Nearly every time I saw this family member – about four times a year for at least the past 40 years, so a total of at lea...

  • Perspective is an easy thing to lose

    Doug Little|Mar 29, 2024

I had the huge privilege of speaking at the Friends Church in Gate today. I wouldn’t ever make it as a full-time pastor, but I tell ya, I enjoy filling in from time to time and talking about Jesus and his grace and mercy that saved us all. I got to talk about perspective today and how easy it is for us to lose it. I got to talk about how we must stay in the Word to help not lose perspective. How we must stay connect with Jesus. How we must use the greatest book ever written, the Bible, as a how-to book to not lose perspective. I also got to tal...

  • Another gospel song

    Roger Hardaway|Mar 29, 2024

Recently, we looked at the life and career of songwriter Albert Brumley who wrote several hundred hymns, the most popular of which was the gospel standard, “I’ll Fly Away.” In researching the story behind that venerated tune, I came across some interesting information about another gospel songwriter who – like Brumley – came from a humble rural background and eventually wrote several hymns. And, also like Brumley, he had one composition that became extremely well known and was published...
