  • Look at my scars

Pastor John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church|Apr 5, 2024

Imagine Thomas' condition. A week earlier, he had watched Christ die. He had placed all of his hope and all of his life on Jesus. Jesus was everything to him, and now he was dead. Three days after the cross, Thomas could still not join the other disciples. He had lost too much, and the painful memories of his Savior's battered body haunted him. The disciples came to find him to tell him the joyful news: Christ had Risen. Peter, James, John and all the others affirmed to Thomas that Christ had in...

  • The resurrection

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Apr 5, 2024

I know that Easter is now over but the thought of Jesus’ resurrection and overcoming death lingers in my mind. Many sermons this past Sunday spoke of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and the power he displayed by overcoming death! Not just a physical death, but a spiritual death as well! Remember that Jesus took on the sins of the world when he died on that cross, and he was temporarily separated from God, thus the words he uttered, “my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me.” But Jesus’ death on that cross gives us a resurre...

  • Excused absences for 4-H students signed into law

    Sen. Casey Murdock|Apr 5, 2024

We began last week with a joint session with the House to honor Oklahoma’s veterans. It’s always an honor to recognize the brave men and women who’ve served our nation and share our appreciation for all of their work and sacrifices. The remainder of the week was largely spent on committee work. Our next deadline is approaching on April 11, and we have until this point to advance House bills to the Senate floor for further consideration. One critical measure has already been approved by both chambers and signed into law by Governor Stitt. House...

  • It's gonna be a busy weekend

    Jim Scribner|Apr 5, 2024

Last night was the Citizens Choice Awards Gala. There was no category for the most curbs hit in Alva, so I didn't go. This evening is the First Friday Art Walk at Graceful Arts Gallery. I have never been, but the crowd looks pretty good most of the time. If you are a rodeo fan, Bull Battle 8 is at the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 7:30. The 78th annual Waynoka Snake Hunt is also this weekend. From the looks of all the trailers going that way, they should have a great...

  • A different kind of strike – Part 1

    Roger Hardaway|Apr 5, 2024

April signals the beginning of baseball season in the United States. Therefore, it is appropriate to tell one of the thousands of interesting stories that have come from the annals of what used to be called “America’s pastime.” This story is about a pitcher named Ray Caldwell who played in the major leagues from 1910 to 1921. The first thing we need to note is that Caldwell was not exactly a role model for youngsters aspiring to become baseball stars someday. Caldwell had a well-deserved reput...

  • Grace defined

    Doug Little|Apr 5, 2024

There are many different definitions of grace in the dictionary. Webster's best defines grace as approval or favor. So, when you take that definition and apply it to the grace that God rains down on us when we believers put our faith in him, it defies comprehension doesn't it? I can’t seem to understand it, not in its totality, but I get the fact that whatever you have done, wherever you go, when you take that step back towards him, his grace is enough to cover your indiscretions. Not that there won’t be judgment, because we will be jud...

  • Others' lives are often not as easy as we assume

    Dal Houston|Apr 5, 2024

Recently I had to spend a weekend out of town on business. Normally when out of town, I can find somewhere unique or cool to eat out, get a drink or go hangout, or something to see. However there was just nothing to do here, and to make matters worse the weather was bad, so I was stuck in my hotel watching television. To make this situation even worse, there were few channels available, so I finally ended up watching a channel dedicated to interviewing entertainment stars and celebrities. For th...

  • The ears and memories of baby elephants

    Andy and Renie Bowman|Apr 5, 2024

Back in the ancient days of Fred Flintstone and no cell phones, when he was a young dad and a wet-behind-the-ears pastor, Andy had a habit. No, not a habit like we refer to today, but he unconsciously used a certain phrase – constantly. “I’m sick and tired of…” was the opening statement to just about anything that bothered him, in or out of the pulpit. Abuse of children, eating English peas, lazy politicians, endlessly freezing weather – you name it. He had a negative opinion and those aroun...

  • Eclipse frenzy has struck America!

    Arden Chaffee|Apr 5, 2024

Of all the animals on Earth, the most interesting ones to watch are humans. On this Monday, the total eclipse comes to The World and for a few hours, as it crosses The Americas from southwest to northeast, changes to nature will take place. Instead of dividing the nation as have recent events, it will unite us for the time it exemplifies the greatness of our God and the gratitude for human ability to predict such a spectacle. I have heard of no conspiracy theories concerning its occurrence....
