  • Bambi watch out

    Jim Scribner|Apr 7, 2019

Yesterday was Dad's birthday party. Thanks to all who attended. Tuesday is the big day for the knee replacement. We have an early start time, so Bambi watch out. We hope this goes smoother than the heart doctor visit. Dad was there for a stress test at 10 a.m. and didn't get out until after 4 p.m. The real stress test was finding the patience to sit in the waiting room that long. I know it will go well, but a brief prayer for the doc to have steady hands might not hurt. I'm wondering how many...

  • The Coffee House Philosopher

    Randy Kilbourne|Apr 7, 2019

In the late 1950s, my family particularly enjoyed watching the TV show “Maverick,” starring James Garner (a native Oklahoman) on Sunday evenings. In the show, Garner played a light-hearted professional poker player who had several antagonists, one of whom was a mischievous woman gambler by the name of Samantha Crawford. “Sam” always managed to get the best of “Bret” (Garner’s character), but in each case it would be by “slickering” him into the most ingenious “get rich” schemes imaginable – which of course, he could never resist. The stori...
