    The Alfalfa County Board of Commissioners met Monday morning in the regular meeting. The topic of the burn ban and the risk to firefighters, civilians and property was a great concern for the commissioners.     Alva man Luis Chavez ran the Boston Marathon for the first time Monday. He came in an impressive 50th place among 26,400 finishers. The folks at Alva Market where he works said Chavez finished with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes. The overall winner of the Boston Marathon was Yuki Kawauchi, who finished in 2:15:58.     Kiowa’s Tree Board applied for and received the 2017 National “Tree City USA” award. Board member Carra Mayberry said this is the 22nd consecutive year for the City of Kiowa to receive this honor. Mayor Ron Rohr signed a proclamation declaring April 27 as Kiowa’s Arbor Day.
