    When Woods County authorities tracked down a man wanted on a warrant, they discovered it wasn't the same man they'd jailed earlier. According to court records, on Jan. 15 of this year, a man giving his name as James Thomas Denmark was booked into the Woods County Jail for obstructing an officer and assault and battery on a police officer. He provided his date of birth, social security number and home address. He was photographed and fingerprinted. The man bonded out of jail on a $5,000 bond and was to appear in court on Feb. 11.   • Two facing drug possession, child neglect charges

    A local deputy went to Buena Vista apartments to arrest a woman on a misdemeanor warrant. He ended up arresting two people who were then charged with drug possession and child neglect. Just before noon on Friday, Aug. 19, Woods County Deputy Sheriff Adam Honeyman went to Buena Vista Apartments looking for Tiffany J. Littlejohn.     Sales tax collections in Alva continue lower than in the last couple of years, causing city leaders to watch the budget carefully. However, Alva has fared better than many northwest Oklahoma communities with no layoffs of employees required. Oklahoma cities and towns do not receive revenue from property taxes so sales tax collections provide a large portion of budget revenues.     Courtney Mapes completed two years as an Academic All-State alumni mentor, providing academic support and encouragement to a student in Stillwater. Mapes followed her mentee from Skyline Elementary School to Sangre Ridge Elementary. Each All-State alumni mentor spends at least an hour a week volunteering one-to-one with an assigned elementary school student. The only pre-entries required are poultry, rabbits, horses and the Oklahoma Home & Community Education group entries.
