  • Was it worth it?

    Darin Kearns, Alva Friends Church|Oct 19, 2018

Hebrews 12:15 (NLT): “Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” Fairly close to the middle of the book of Genesis, we learn about a set of twin brothers that didn’t have the best relationship. It’s interesting how that works, isn’t it? We either love or hate our siblings, especially when we’re younger. Thankfully, time has a way of changing our perspective when it comes to our siblings; not always, but usually it does. Ge...

  • Spiritually Speaking

    W. Jay Tyree, College Hill Church of Christ|Oct 19, 2018

We have entered that time of year that my Pop might have called “good sleeping weather.” I’m not a fan of severely cold conditions but crisp mornings and cool nights will do just fine. The change in the temperature also reminds us that it’s time, once again, for our annual Warmth for Winter ministry to get cranked up. If you’re not familiar with this opportunity to share, it is hosted by the College Hill Church of Christ (corner of College and Olive – right across the street from Vinson Hall) and offers Alva and its surrounding communities...

  • Deer hits

    Arden Chaffee|Oct 19, 2018

I like cars and deer, but they don’t mix. It’s sometimes a matter of the deer hitting you instead of the opposite. State Farm Insurance has studied deer-car collisions over the last 15 years and has found the average damage to be $4,179 per incident. The cost to the deer is a more deadly amount! What is the likelihood of a collisi...

At a time when many rural towns are slowly dying, the arrival of two massive meatpacking plants boosted Dodge City's economy and transformed its demographics as immigrants from Mexico and other countries flooded in to fill those jobs. B...
