The greatest gift

A couple of weeks ago, I had the extremely difficult task of taking my mother back to her home in Indiana so she could make her final arrangements, as she has is facing the end of her earthly existence. As we were preparing to leave, she had me pack a few very heavy boxes into the back of our van. One evening, as Mom and her three children were gathered around my brother’s kitchen table, we found out that those boxes contained some of Mom’s most treasured possessions, some of the things that she and my father had collected and cherished most of their lives.
