September 2, 2016

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP, Sept. 1, 2016) – The AAA says about 411,000 Oklahomans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this Labor Day weekend. That's the highest number of Labor Day travelers in the state in eight years.

AAA Oklahoma spokesman Chuck Mai says more than 95 percent of Oklahoma travelers will drive to their holiday destinations this year.

Although gas prices in Oklahoma have increased by 20 cents over the past month, nearly 27 percent of Labor Day travelers say the price of gasoline influenced their decision to travel. The average price Thursday for a gallon of unleaded gas in Oklahoma was $2.13 – still 17 cents lower than the same day a year ago.
