Utility poles suffer damage in accidents

The Alva Police Department worked a couple of accidents recently involving vehicles and utility lines.

On Wednesday, Aug. 17, about 2 p.m. Officer Kyle Hair responded to a call about a vehicle that hit a powerline pole near Church and Seventh streets. When he arrived, he saw the pole had been hit and was on fire. Billy Joe (Joey) Melton, 51, of Alva told Officer Hair as he was pulling out of the alley in his 2013 Ford F3S, his vehicle caught the guywire attached to the powerline pole, causing it to break loose. Melton said he moved his truck so no further damage would be done to his truck.
