Strong Friday night storm cancels events

Ominous clouds hang low over Alva just before the lightning, rain and wind erupted Friday night. Skies to the south are still bright with sunshine. To the left is BancCentral National Financial and to the right is the Alva Moose Lodge.

Threatening black clouds hung over Alva early Friday night although bright blue sky could be seen to the south. Lightning preceded the rain and strong winds which swept the area. The storm caused an early shutdown to events at the Woods County Fair. The Alva Speedway had to stop go-kart races and planned an early start to catch up on Saturday.

The Alva Goldbugs were playing football at Oklahoma Baptist Academy in Enid, and the game was called at halftime due to the approaching storm.
