AURORA, Colo. (AP, posted Sept. 21, 2016) — A group of Aurora high school football players have chosen not to stand during the national anthem.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/2cZktn2 ) that in a move mimicking that of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick the group of Aurora Central players have not stood for the first three games and they say they plan to continue to not do so, hoping to gain more followers.

So far 10 to 15 players have joined the protest, which has received mixed reactions from fans and peers.

Senior captain Tarell Gissendanner organized the decision to kneel, saying he believes in Kaepernick's message that minorities are being treated poorly. He says even as a high school student he wants to be a part of the discussion.

Aurora Central's administration has supported the players' decision.
