One nation under God

September 23, 2016

As a proud American citizen and ex-Marine, I still respect the American flag. Are you old enough to remember back in the day when we started each day in school with the flag salute, which ends with “one nation under God?”

The comparison from those days to what’s happening all across America today concerning patriotism and honoring our great flag is quite astounding to say the least. There have been burnings of the flag, walking on the flag, disrespecting the flag. And now we see sports stars choosing not to honor our great flag when the national anthem is played or sung. Sad to say, this is filtering down to the younger generation as well.

This saddens my heart as, I’m sure, it saddens yours as well. I think of the sacrifices made, the blood that was shed and the lives lost defending our flag, freedom, and the United States of America. Do you suppose we, as a nation, are drifting away from what we pledged each school morning years ago with our hand over our heart that we are “one nation under God?”

If so, then, what can we do about it? I believe the Word of God has the answer wrapped up in one verse: 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

I believe our great country needs a healing … how about you?

It’s Just a Thought.
