Washington first graders get special treat

First graders get one-on-one time with eighth-graders at Washington Early Childhood Center for National-Read-a-Book-Day on Sept. 6.

The first graders of Washington Early Education Center in Alva got a special treat recently during class.

Alva Middle School's librarian, Karlene White, started a tradition for "National Read a Book Day" for Alva Middle School students to read to Alva' elementary children.

On Sept. 6, Alva Middle School eighth graders chose a book and walked to Washington Early Education Center to read to the eager first graders in the gym.
