Kandee Almgren

Kandee Almgrens' view on Cancer Week.

Alva High School supported cancer survivors the week of Oct. 2 – 8. The students were encouraged to show support for cancer survivors by wearing different colors that represent different types of cancer. Monday was purple for pancreatic cancer, Tuesday was grey for brain cancer, Wednesday was orange for leukemia, Thursday was black for melanoma, and Friday was pink for breast cancer. This was a great way to show support and let people know they aren't alone in their battles.

The high school kids who chose to participate in the event were encouraged to take a group picture in the student lounge with everyone else who participated in that day's cancer awareness color.

Kandee Almgren discussed her opinion on Cancer Week and said, "I love this week and I love that students can become aware of the different types of cancer and the colors that go along with them."

Almgren had an aunt, Sharon, pass away from pancreatic cancer last January. Almgrens' mother's brother-in-law also passed away from cancer seven years ago. There is a pancreatic cancer festival in Dallas Almgren attends.

The Dallas Pancreatic Cancer Action Walk is a huge festival with different speakers, including the Dallas Mavericks coach. The festival has a 5K run, a 5K walk, and a 1 mile walk to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. The event also provides booths with information about research and treatment options. The Cancer Week was a great way to raise awareness for different types of cancer, and it was a great way to show support for those battling cancer.
