Warmth for Winter

October 21, 2016

The trailer is blocking my afternoon parking spot! I keep finding trash bags stacked up by the fellowship room door! People are calling the office and swinging by the church office just to “drop stuff off.” Life is good!

As many of you have already realized, it’s that time of year again; time to begin gathering clothing for our annual Warmth for Winter campaign at the College Hill Church of Christ. For decades, the family at College Hill has served as the yearly conduit for the generosity of the people of northwest Oklahoma who wish to help their neighbors and friends in need of warm winter clothing. Every year, I am re-amazed at the vast numbers of people who make a special effort to aid in this worthy cause. Perhaps you would like to do the same?

Items of warm clothing can be dropped off at any time, day or night, at the east entrance of the College Hill building. A trailer marked “Warmth for Winter” is parked beneath the awning toward the south end of the structure. Feel free to place items in the trailer (or) if the trailer is full, leave them on the pavement beneath the drive-through and someone will make sure they get to the right place. We check the area daily. Unfortunately, we are not able to assess value for these gifts – for purposes of income tax. We leave that to you.

Each Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., the CH Family gets together and sorts through the gifts, getting them ready for distribution. The work time is followed by a brief devotional. Then, on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving (Nov. 19, this year), we make these items available to all who need them. You are welcome to help with the sorting and/or take advantage of the give-away. My God bless you for your efforts!

All of the Spiritually Speaking articles that appeared from October 2015 to 2016 are now available in “Spiritually Speaking, Year Two in Review” on Kindle (paperback available on Amazon). If you hurry, you can download the Kindle version free on Friday the 21st.
