Alva woman charged in drug buy

October 23, 2016

An Alva woman is faced with a felony drug charge following a controlled drug buy. Carey Ann Crawford, 41, of Alva has been charged with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (oxycodone) within 2,000 feet of a public housing project. The crime is punishable for four years to life and a fine of up to $40,000.

According to court papers, on March 11 Woods County Undersheriff Keith Dale worked with a confidential informant (CI) to set up a drug purchase. Deputy Bill Barnum searched the CI for illegal substances, money or weapons before Dale equipped the CI with a listening/recording device and provided two $20 bills.

Undersheriff Dale observed the CI go to the door of Carey Crawford’s apartment in the 1900 block of College Boulevard in Alva. He heard the CI purchase one pill from Crawford for $20. The CI then left Crawford’s residence.

Dale met with the CI who gave him one pill and one $20 bill. The CI believed the pill to be oxycodone. Dale examined the pill and identified it as oxycodone 20mg, a schedule 2 controlled dangerous substance.

The felony charge against Crawford was filed in Woods County on Oct. 19.
