Soccer Battles to 1-1 Double Overtime Tie at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, OKLA. – The East Central University soccer team battled through to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Oklahoma Baptist in Great American Conference action.

The Tigers (3-10-2, 3-6-1 GAC) saw sophomore Summer Whalen score her second goal in as many games, while tallying two shots on goal. Senior Lexi Hurley recorded 12 saves in 110 minutes of action.

The Bison (9-4-1, 6-3-1 GAC) were the first to score, taking a 0-1 lead at 29:17 in the first half.

ECU waited until the last minute of regulation before earning the equalizer. Whalen finished a shot from freshman Alexis Castillo with a header from six yards out.

OBU had plenty of chances to get the match-winner in overtime, recording three shots on goal in the first extra session and one in the second. The Tigers recorded just one shot on goal in the opening overtime period forcing the 1-1 tie.

The Tigers will remain on the road for the final two regular-season matches of the season. ECU will first battle with Harding, Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. and then Ouachita, Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m.
