In ancient Greece, old Socrates had an interesting way of teaching others how to think. First, he would allow them to tell him everything they thought they knew about the subject at hand. All the while, he would plead ignorance on the subject and just let them talk. When they eventually ran out of information to impart, Socrates would set about the task of pointing out a few flaws in their system of thought.
