Saturday, Oct. 29, students from the Alva band went to Tecumseh to try out for Small School All-State Honor Band, where they competed against other students from all over the state.

Preparing for the competition requires “lots and lots of practice and hard work,” said Cara Bradt, Alva band director. “Students are required to play excerpts from two different etudes; they are also required to know all major scales and the chromatic scale, and they also have to sight read.”
