Ross home totally destroyed in fire

Plumes of smoke northwest of Alva Monday afternoon signaled the location of a rural fire. Alva Fire Chief Kirk Trekell said the fire was at a residence near the intersection of County Road 400 and Kiowa Road to the northwest of Mackey’s feedlot.

When the call came in at 4:13 p.m. on Nov. 14, residents of the mobile home were trying to carry burning items outside to keep the fire from spreading, but they were unsuccessful. Alva fire trucks sped to the location in just seven minutes. When they arrived, the mobile home and a car parked by the front door were fully involved in the blaze.
