Tiny army invading Oklahoma

These are some of the variations in color and markings of the Asian Lady Beetle.

An army is invading Oklahoma. It's a small army in terms of size but seemingly large in numbers. The troops are composed of tiny quarter-inch size insects that look like discolored ladybugs.

These beetles go by many names: multi-colored Asian ladybird beetle, multi-colored Asian ladybug, Asian lady beetle and even the Halloween beetle. The name most often used is multi-colored Asian lady beetle (ALB). The scientific name of this insect is Harmonia axyridis.

People in northwest Oklahoma are seeing them in their yards, on their houses and even invading their homes. In its native Asia, ALB dwells...
