Phone records lead officers to escapee

• Mother charged with harboring fugitive

A young man from Alva had a few days of freedom after he escaped from custody during an arrest attempt. Despite hiding out and buying a “burner” phone, he wasn’t able to elude law enforcement for long. Nine days later, he was in custody with additional felony charges. His mother also ended up with a felony charge in Woods County.

The Escape

On Nov. 6 at 4:45 p.m., Woods County Undersheriff Keith Dale and Alva Police Officer John Caviness went to 1113 Barnes St. in Alva to arrest Justin Dean McClary, 23, on a warrant in an October 2015 felony charge of possession of a controlled dangerous subst...
