Betty LaVerne Jewell was born on October 14, 1925 in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to Merle and Hazel Winans. She passed away November 14, 2016, in Enid at the age of 91 years, 1 month.

Betty was raised on the family farm east of Amorita and attended the Amorita School District. She married Alby "Junior" Jewell on July 25, 1945.
