Oklahoma leaders urge more education funding from lawmakers

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) — Education and city leaders in Oklahoma are urging state legislators to increase pay for teachers for the sake of the state's public education and economic development.
The Tulsa World (http://bit.ly/2gGxQMi ) reports that about 50 people representing five cities, including Tulsa, and four suburban school districts gathered in Broken Arrow on Monday to advocate for increased education funding.
Voters rejected State Question 779 on Nov. 8, which proposed a 1 percent sales tax increase to fund public education and provide raises for teachers.
