UAM Hoops holds on for the win against Northwestern Okla.

ALVA, OK — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team took down Great American Conference foe Northwestern Oklahoma State on the road for the Weevils sixth straight victory by a final score of 87-81.

UAM (6-0, 4-0 GAC) remains perfect on the year after facing the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma (2-5, 0-4 GAC) on the road in Alva. The opening half saw each team trading lead changes in a highly contested defensive battle with the Weevils leading after the first half, 44-39. The second half brought more of the same until the final three minutes included four different Weevil scorers to fuel Arkansas-Monticello to the win over NWOSU, 87-81.

The Weevils were led on the offensive side of the ball by junior Derylton Hill with a game-high 29 points and added six total rebounds. Hill ended the game shooting 9-for-13 from the field and went 11-for-13 from the free throw line, and added one assist and one block as well.

Juniors Cobe Goosby (17), Karim Mawuenyega (16), and Tyrin Jones (10) each finished the day in double figure scoring also, with Goosby posting a team-high eight rebounds and five assists.

UAM ended the match-up shooting 52 percent from the field (26-for-50), 40 percent from beyond the arc (7-for-18) and 76 percent on free throws (28-for-37). Northwestern ended the game at 46 percent from the field (26-for-57), 35 percent on threes (7-for-20) and 79 percent on foul shots (22-for-28).

Arkansas-Monticello will return to the court next on Saturday, December 10 as the Weevils host Baptist Bible College in a non-conference match-up inside Steelman Field House with tip-off slated for 4 p.m.
