Waynoka Schools to solicit bids for gym renovation

December 7, 2016

The Waynoka School Board held a short meeting the night of Monday, Dec. 5, to discuss proposed building projects, among other general items. Some members were absent, but a quorum was reached.

First, the consent agenda was approved, consisting of the minutes of Nov. 7 (a regular meeting), the financial reports, encumbrances from the general fund, general fund payroll, building fund, child nutrition fund, gift fund and change orders.

Superintendent Loren Tackett reported that the school's finances are doing well. “Everything seems to be on par with last year, which was a good year,” he said.

In the superintendent's report, Tackett reminded the board that the 2016 Pioneer Cellular Northwest Prep Classic basketball tournament is scheduled for Dec. 8–10. Participating teams are Waynoka, Burlington, Cherokee, South Central, South Barber and Timberlake.

Drawings of the proposed new sidewalk have been created, and Tackett will be meeting with Jay Adair to make sure the bus routes are correctly included. There is not a date set yet for the sidewalk to be completed.

Tackett also mentioned that the new fence around the elementary playground has been delayed slightly, but it is still in the process of being placed. Drawings and price have been created for a covering over the school's softball bleachers.

Next on the agenda, the board approved soliciting sealed bids for the gym renovation project, and Joe D. Hall, General Contractor, LLC, was approved as construction manager, and will be in charge of soliciting those sealed bids.

Detailed drawings of the gym renovation project are being drawn up by architects and will be used to solicit the sealed bids for the project. The drawings can take up to six weeks to be completed and will then be given to Joe D. Hall to prepare bid packets for the sealed bids.

Lastly, the schedule of regular board meetings of the Waynoka Board of Education for 2017 calendar year were approved. The 2017 dates are as follows: Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, June 29, Aug. 7, Sept. 5, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, Dec. 4.
