Mayor wears unusual adornment while giving council report

WORTHY CAUSE – Alva Mayor Kelly Parker cheerfully sports "earrings" of tree ornaments during his report to the city council Dec. 5. The mayor agreed to the unusual jewelry so Councilmember Bryce Benson would pay $100 for them in a charity auction.

Alva Mayor Kelly Parker opened his report to the city council with a smile and an explanation. He said he and Councilmember Bryce Benson were recently at a fundraising auction. The purpose was to raise money for needy families in the community for Christmas.

Benson purchased a pair of cedar wood cutout Christmas ornaments, agreeing to pay $100 with one stipulation. Parker would have to wear the ornaments as earrings during his report to the council.

Parker carefully positioned the hooks of the large dangling ornaments in his ears during the explanation. He then said that concluded his report....
