Emily Swenn, a senior at Alva High School (AHS), is involved in many activities pertaining to school. Swenn is involved in Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and journalism, and she is also one of the managers of the girls' basketball team. She decided to take the journalism class so she could see what it is like to be an actual journalist.

"I am just trying to try things out to see what I want to do later in life," Swenn said.

Most people don't get to experience the newspaper processes first hand.

"It isn't easy, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get good stories," she said. The hardest part of it all, Swenn said, is "getting article information, typing it up and getting it turned in because this process takes a lot of time."

Swenn said this class has helped her learn the proper ways to write essays and has also helped her become more outgoing, because "you have to go up and talk to people that you don't know and interview them."

Swenn also acknowledges the support of the community and what a big role others have played in her success as a journalist.

"The community motivates me to make the articles the best I can make them, and to keep going," Swenn said.
