Kamryn Barnes wins AMS spelling bee, Laura Anton runner up

December 16, 2016

Kamryn Barnes, left, was the winner of the 2016 Alva Middle School Spelling Bee held Wednesday morning, Dec. 14. The runner-up was Laura Anton, pictured at right. The competition began with 23 contestants. The first word misspelled – because of a nervous correction – was "open," followed by other words such as belief, timidly, nonsense, specific, invisible, bemuse, caterpillar and settee. The last misspelled word of the contest was "microscope," making Laura Anton the runner up. Kamryn Barnes was given the word "auction" for the win. Both Kamryn Barnes and Laura Anton will go on to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee.
