Community rallies to help Alva man in need of kidney transplant

KIDNEY TRANSPLANT NEEDED – Nathan Gaisford, pictured with his wife, Lacey, and daughter Avery, is raising funds to pay for a needed kidney transplant. A Love Fund in his name has been established at Alva State Bank and at the website www.helptolive.org. Donation jars are set up in Alva's Market, as well.

Poorly functioning kidneys plagued Nathan Gaisford since his birth. The undersized kidneys caused Gaisford to be smaller than many of his peers, but his determination bridged the gap.

On Nov. 26, 1990, Nathan underwent his first kidney transplant. His mother, Alisa Sargent, who gave him life originally, stepped forward as the perfect match to give the life-saving organ.

In 2014, during a routine visit to the OU Transplant Center, Gaisford received the news that another transplant would be needed and he should start his fundraising efforts toward that goal. However, during the following year, h...
