Car-raising airbags free cattle from river's mucky bottom

COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — Using airbags generally inflated to raise cars, rescuers in east Mississippi freed cattle from a mucky river bottom.

The Commercial Dispatch (http://bit.ly/2hkKGiU) reports that Columbus Fire and Rescue workers rescued three cows Thursday night from the Tombigbee River.

Department spokesman Anthony Colom says the airbags are generally used to raise vehicles after wrecks so wood blocks can be put underneath to stabilize them.

He says the cattle were stuck in 1 to 2 feet of mud and water.
