Longfellow AmeriCorps volunteer headed to presidential inauguration

Carlie Edstrom is surprised by cheering Longfellow Elementary students celebrating her trip as a National Guard member to the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Carlie Edstrom, Alva High School graduate and Northwestern Oklahoma State University education major, works at Longfellow Elementary School in the AmeriCorps program, which provides tutoring services to students.

Edstrom is part of an Oklahoma National Guard unit based in Norman. Two weeks ago they were notified the unit is being called up to active duty and one of their jobs will be to participate in security for the presidential inauguration in Washington, D. C.
