ALVA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene used a combination of great defense and rebounding to get a 85-63 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday night.

Southern Nazarene got off to a cold start as they missed eight of their first nine shots and turned the ball over five times in the opening six minutes. Northwestern Oklahoma State took advantage of SNU's slow start and jumped out to a commanding 14-3 lead with 3:53 remaining in the quarter. However, the Storm started to heat up in the closing minutes of the quarter as they made five of their next eight shots, which enabled them to go on a 13-2 run, capped by an Abby Boyd 3-pointer to knot the score up at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Crimson Storm's hot shooting carried over into the second quarter as they were able to out score the Rangers 18-9 in the quarter, building a nine point lead, with the score at 34-25 going into intermission. The Storm shot 38.2 percent on 13-of-34 shooting in the first half, while holding NWOSU to 27.3 percent on 9-of-33 shooting. SNU also grabbed 27 rebounds and forced 12 turnovers in the opening half.

Southern Nazarene started the second half on an 8-5 run, putting the score at 42-32 with 5:34 remaining. As the Rangers tried to get the SNU lead under ten before the end of the third quarter, the Storm applied the pressure and started to pull away as they ended the quarter on a 18-2 run highlighted by an Adrienne Berry 3-pointer to put the score at 60-34 at the end of the third quarter.

The Storm built their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter at 27 points with 6:56 remaining in regulation. The Rangers would go on to out score SNU 29-25 in the quarter, but it wasn't enough to come back as Southern Nazarene cruised to its third straight road victory.

The Storm finished the game shooting 48.6 percent on 34-of-70 shooting, while Northwestern Oklahoma State shot 33.3 percent on 22-of-66 shooting. SNU dominated the paint as they out rebounded NWOSU 51-33 and out scored the Rangers 38-22 in the paint. Southern Nazarene also forced 22 turnovers and scored 22 points off those miscues.
