Lady Eagles' DMR squad posts runner-up finish at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. (Jan. 20, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian's distance medley relay team posted a runner-up finish to highlight the Lady Eagles' outing on Friday on the opening day of the Southern Open, hosted by Missouri Southern at Mercy Indoor Track.

The foursome of Maci Rich, Kelsey Simmons, Leisa VanVooren and Layne Hammer finished the 4,000-meter race – divided into legs of 1,200, 400, 800 and 1,600 meters – in 12:37.76, placing them ahead of 14 other teams in the 16-team race.

Other top OC performances included one by freshman Jordyn Williams, who posted a career-best time of 9.49 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, good for a 23rd-place finish in the 66-woman field. Another OC freshman, Ivy Lobley, finished 25th in 9.58 seconds.

In her first collegiate attempt in the 60 meters, OC freshman Lawanda Harvey placed 15th among 103 runners in 7.91 seconds. Harvey also finished high in the 200 meters, placing 17th among 121 runners with a time of 26.28 seconds.

OC's top field-event finisher on Friday was sophomore Alexus Woolly, who placed 11th among 40 women in the weight throw with a top mark of 47 feet, 3¾ inches (14.42 meters).

The meet will continue on Saturday.
