January 22, 2017

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding connected on three of its six 3-pointers early in a very productive fourth quarter and defeated Henderson State 76-64 on Saturday in Great American Conference women's action at the Duke Wells Center.

Harding took advantage of a size advantage to put three post players in double figures and post a 48-32 rebound advantage. The Lady Bisons outscored the Reddies 28-15 in the fourth quarter and 36-24 in the paint for the game.

With the victory, Harding improved to 14-2 overall and 11-0 in the GAC. It is the second time the Lady Bisons have started GAC play with 11 consecutive wins, also reaching that total in the 2014-15 season. Harding has won eight straight and 10 of its last 11.

Henderson State, who defeated Harding both times last season, fell to 7-10 overall and 7-4 in conference. The Reddies have lost three of their last four.

Two 3-pointers from Falan Miller and a third from A'ndi Haney helped spark an early fourth-quarter run and opened up the low post for Harding the rest of the period.

Junior forward Sydney Layrock led Harding with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She had 14 points in the first half. Sophomore forward Caroline Hogue had 16 points, and sophomore forward Sydnie Jones had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Pink Jones led Henderson State with 16 points.

Harding entered the game as the GAC's top defense and limited Henderson State to only 33 percent shooting. The Reddies did not shoot over 40 percent in any quarter.

Harding shot 69 percent (9-of-13) in the decisive fourth quarter and 48 percent for the game.

Saturday's game was the first of three straight on the road for Harding, who will leave for Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Lady Bisons take on Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford on Thursday and play Northwestern Oklahoma in Alva on Saturday.
