HARRISON, Arkansas (formerly Jet) – Funeral services for Merle Vincent were held Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Jet United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Pleasant View Cemetery north of Jet with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc, of Helena. Online condolences may be made at http://www.lanmanmemorials.com.

Merle Allen Vincent passed away January 13, 2017, in Harrison, Arkansas. He was born April 13, 1936, in Jet, Oklahoma. Merle graduated from Jet High School in 1955. He received his BS degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1959 and his masters of library science from Emporia State University in 1965. He taught in Kansas and later became library director at Cowley County Community College from 1969 to 1974. He then became director of the library of North Arkansas Community College, now NAC. As a member of the original staff, he served in that position for 30 years, making a total of 45 years in education and library services. Merle retired on June 30, 2004. Since retirement from NAC, he volunteered at Boone County Heritage Museum, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center and First United Methodist Church as the church librarian. Merle enjoyed wood carving, playing the piano and organ and playing dominoes.

A memorial service will be held later in Harrison, Arkansas.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Dorothy Vincent; brothers, Bill Vincent and Charles Vincent and a sister, Barbara Ann.

He is survived by brother Howard Vincent of Macomb, Oklahoma; sisters Linda Sharp of Wichita, Kansas and Sally Frech and husband Darrell of Bethany, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law Melba Vincent of Golden, Colorado. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, Scott Vincent, Eric Vincent, Gina Peterson, Keith Vincent, Michael Vincent, Brian Vincent, Neil Vincent, Holly Vincent, Barbara Watson, Jeanette DeVore, Brenda Scripsick, Charles Frech, Sherry Hill and many special friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be may be made to First United Methodist Church – Organ Fund and sent to 1100 West Bower, Harrision, Arkansas 72601 or to Lanman Funeral Home, Inc., POB 126, Helena, Oklahoma 73741.
