February 9, 2017

City candidates generated a flurry of activity at the Woods County Election Board on the final day of filing Wednesday, Feb. 8. Several races have developed and at least one filing has been contested.

Freedom

Shad Brackin was the only person filing for Ward 3 on the town board in Freedom. However, two people have filed for town clerk: Cindy Reed, the incumbent, and Kristina D. Hopper.

Dacoma

Cale Leeper filed for Dacoma Board of Trustees. Daren Slater has filed for Clerk-Treasurer.

Waynoka

Three people have filed for Waynoka Ward 1 Seat 2, and that’s the source of the contested filing. Candidates are Sharon Kopriva, Randy Stewart and Keith R. Solomon. According to a spokesperson at the election board, the three candidates are expected to meet with the district attorney on Monday. The election board will be releasing a statement Thursday giving more details.

Filing for Waynoka Ward 2 Seat 1 is Harold R. Oliver. Brandon K. Green has filed for Ward 2 Seat 2, and Ronnie L. Pitts filed for Ward 4 Seat 2.

Three candidates have also filed for the Ward 3 Seat 2 position. They are Brad Perot, Sid Judd and Carlson Stewart.

Alva

Two races have developed for city council in Alva. Both Daniel Winters, the incumbent, and Tim Bradley have filed for Ward 1 Seat 1. For Ward 3 Seat 1 both Troy Brooks and Bo Hannaford, the incumbent, have filed.

Uncontested filings in Alva are Christopher Eckhardt for Ward 2 Seat 1 and Brian Wallis for Ward 4 Seat 1. Incumbent Trent Goss was the only one filing for City Treasurer.

Alva will have two more city council openings up for election in April, but filing for those will be held next week, Feb. 13-15. Those are for Ward 2 Seat 2 and Ward 3 Seat 2 unexpired terms.

The municipal election will be April 4.
